Die Gemälde sind die Stars! Eine Kuratorenführung durch die „Galerie“ der Retrospektive / The Paintings are the Stars! A curator’s tour of the Retrospective “gallery”

Northern European painters and their works are at the centre of this year’s Retrospective section. The spectrum goes from idyllic drawings of rural life on the Norwegian fjords in the 19 century to experimental modernist work. The diversity of cinematic styles and historical perspectives makes the Retrospective a true feast for the eyes – not least of all thanks to the artworks that are “exhibited” in the films. They are seen larger than life on the cinema screen. This presentation by Jörg Schöning introduces the works and their creators. They include Peter Weiss, Anders Zorn, Vilhelm Hammershøi, Marie Krøyer, Nikolai Astrup, Helene Schjerfbeck, and Hilma af Klint, as well as artists represented with original work in Lübeck’s Museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus, Edvard Munch and Peder Severin Krøyer.
