Recombination – The Fulldome Journey

In “Recombination”, visual artist Julius Horsthuis creates eight virtual worlds, with images generated entirely by mathematical formulas. The visualisations are produced through the use of fractal geometry, whereby Horsthuis emphasises that the shapes are not a product of his imagination but, rather, are buried within mathematical reality and discovered by him. The visual voyage is accompanied by soundtracks composed for the purpose by renowned musicians. The result is an extraordinary kaleidoscope of landscapes and psychedelic architectural forms, with a monumentality and symmetry that often call to mind Gothic or sacred buildings. Horsthuis himself describes these apparitions as “fractal cathedrals”, and emphasises that they have a spiritual dimension that reflects man's desire for a mystical bond.
