Gazing down from space, the Himawari-8 weather satellite allows us to see how catastrophes play out on Earth. For instance, during the “Black Summer” of 2019/20, when devastating bushfires ravaged large parts of Australia. Assisted by algorithms, Lübeck filmmaker Felix Dierich has condensed terabytes of data into a trance-like flood of images – a visual narrative of the beauty and destruction of our planet.
