Life in the Generation Ship
Immersion 360°, Germany 2024, 21 Min., engl. OV, 12 years and older
This 360° installation shows five capsules of a futuristic spaceship in which people of different generations leave Earth to set off for unknown galaxies. Based on the Ten Sefirot of the Kabbalah – the forces through which the divine is revealed in the world – the capsules represent five spheres: bridge, heritage, agriculture, public space, and re-use. Reality and fiction merge in the immersive space of the Fulldome, and the audience is invited to experience life on board. In the course of Yael Bartana's method of pre-enactment, which interweaves fact and fiction, prophecy and history, each capsule represents a facet of an imaginary society, encouraging reflection on narratives old and new. The journey into space becomes a metaphor for the search for new societal possibilities. The InfinityDome is not merely a projection surface; it consciously refers to the symbolic meaning of domes in places of worship.
