Tuulinen päivä / Windy Day
Retrospektive, Finland 1964, 75 Min., finn. OV, sw. st
Kirsi remembers her summer love on the windy archipelago island. She and Matti took long walks, made love, and collected dune reeds. When summer is over, Matti goes back to the city, but promises Kirsi he will send for her. When she doesn’t hear from him, she goes looking. Kirsi meanders through Helsinki. She manages to find out Matti’s address, but he no longer lives there. She spends the winter with Jakob, a connoisseur of art and jazz. Then she crosses paths with an ageing gentleman … Eino Ruutsalo shot his film partially on the island of Tiutinen/Kotka where he was born, working almost alone. “Windy Day” is the work of a painter – “What we see is a very unconventional film; momentary snatches of atmosphere, almost like watercolours, pleasing to the eye, fleeting” (Yrjö Kemppi, Ilta-Sanomat, 1962).
The film will be screened with the two supporting films Hyppy / The Jump and Kinescope.
