Four people in four episodes. What links them is a disaffection with everyday life in an authoritarian system. When they end up together in a recreation of Édouard Manet’s famous 1863 painting Luncheon on the Grass, a kind of social utopia prevails over repression and corruption. Priit Pärn’s masterpiece is an artistically convincing rumination on the absurdity of the Soviet system.
The film is part of the short film programme A New Look at Old Masters.
