Hommage, Norway / Germany / France 2014, 93 Min., norw., fr., engl. OV, ger. st
A residential estate, with identical houses arranged in a strict geometric pattern. Outside the city, people in white coats and safety glasses go about their business in a sterile laboratory. As in other Bent Hamer films, the inner life of his main character is reflected in the settings: the everyday life of scientist Marie follows a regular routine. As an employee of the Norwegian Office of Weights and Measures, she calibrates weights. One kilo must weigh exactly 1000 grams. She travels around the country in uniform with a reference weight, measuring, weighing, calibrating. In the evenings, she lies alone on her side of a double bed; her husband has left her. When Marie attends an international congress on weights and measures in Paris, she meets the reserved gardener Pi, who used to be a physicist. The young woman begins to wonder whether grief and disappointment, happiness and love can be measured. And how much a human life weighs.
