Elli Anne was raped at a party, but because she was drunk, her memories of the evening are hazy at best. In her efforts to hold the perpetrator accountable, the seventeen-year-old becomes the victim of a smear campaign. Meanwhile the suspect, snowboard cross champion Issat who is held in very high esteem by his peers, is worried that something else entirely about him will come to light. In the Sámi community in northern Norway, where the story takes place, there are many taboos. “Shut Up” is the first youth series that deals with the topics of rape, queerness, drug use, and social ills within Sámi society. Cautiously, but with a modern and authentic approach, Silje Burgin-Borch tells a story about lies and silence, guilt and healing. These are complex issues that are challenging for any society, not just for the Sámi. A cast of outstanding young Sámi actors brings the characters to life.
