Heajastallan – Bryllupsfesten / A Sámi Wedding

When someone plans a wedding, they have a lot to think about. This is especially true for a Sámi wedding. Garen, who has already had a difficult life, has only a few weeks to organise a nuptial celebration for her son. And she wants to do it right, because he is marrying the daughter of a wealthy family of reindeer herders who look down on Garen and her hunchbacked relatives. Garen's siblings are of no help with the planning. Her gay brother, who lives in the USA, has broken with Sámi traditions; her other brother is more interested in one-night stands than in organising; and her sister only manages to endure life in the Kautokeino community with copious amounts of alcohol... Humour and tragedy stand cheek by jowl in this lively series. The creators lovingly, but mercilessly dissect a perfectly normal, crazy extended family with all its secrets and conflicts – and provide fascinating insights into Sámi culture.
