Close to the Russian border, in Lake Peipus, lies the Estonian island of Piirissaar. It was settled 300 years ago by dissidents who wanted to escape the clutches of both the Orthodox Church and the Russian Army. With a sympathetic eye, this short film documents the idyllic life and rituals of the island's now dwindling population, which has perpetuated the stubbornness of its ancestors.
The film is part of the short film programme Nordic Shorts 3: On the Margins.
