Tre fedre / Fatherhood
Documentary Films, Norway / Germany / Great Britain 2025, 77 Min., norw. OV, engl. st
Kristopher, David, and Sindre are all on the early side of thirty-something and have a happy and loving relationship as a throuple. They’ve just bought a house and are expecting their first child together. Kris is trans and has a uterus, so he will carry the foetus to term. It was conceived in Finland using a donated egg, a form of in-vitro fertilization that isn’t allowed in Norway. The film follows these three men on their unusual journey to fatherhood. It tells the story of how they met, their families, and of the day-to-day challenges they face in an environment that’s becoming increasingly hostile to queers. It also recounts Kristopher’s legal battle with the Norwegian health system, which fifteen years ago legally forced him to have his ovaries removed as part of his transition. Despite all the hurdles the three must overcome in their unique situation, their journey together is marked above all by the love and care for one another, not to mention the great anticipation they have for the new person who will soon be entering their lives.
