"I'm making a film about life,” the director says to her protagonist, who is listening to her own heartbeat through headphones. "Are you starting with a baby and following it until ...?” "No, it's a film about this phase of life.” And Yrsa Roca Fannberg commits herself to this "phase”, the very last one, in a quietly observant and sensitive manner. In an nursing home in Reykjavik, she follows the daily lives of elderly people of varied backgrounds. A man paints his wife's fingernails red; he is trying to bring back beautiful memories, most of which she has already lost. Another resident shows a nurse, who is listening patiently, how to properly make the bed. And in the smoking corner, two women are enjoying the rays of the sun. Death is omnipresent in the warm, poetic images. But at the same time a lot of love and affection is palpable – between the couples who live together in the home, between befriended residents, and also between the caregivers and the people they are caring for.
