Åpenbaringen / The Revelation / Die Offenbarung
Specials, Norway 1977, 80 Min., norw. OV, engl. st
After spending years looking after the house and home, at her husband’s suggestion the 50-year-old Inger gets a job for the first time. However, her clumsy attempts to sell inflatable travel hangers to women in a department store make her seem like she’s completely out of her element and she’s promptly dismissed. After her failed day of work, her husband sends her to a hotel at the seaside to recuperate for a week. This is where Inger meets a friendly young couple and spends a few days with them. The clearly audible orgasm from the woman in the room next to hers sets a process in motion in Inger, who begins questioning not only her own sex life, but increasingly her entire existance. When she returns home, refreshed and ready for the world, she discovers her husband in bed with a woman co-worker … In her radically avant-garde and feminist film, which caused a scandal in Norway at the time, Løkkeberg impressively uncovers the inner life of an invisible woman in dreamlike, humorous, but also painful sequences.
