After 15 years in prison for robbery, Anker is released. Only his brother Manfred knows where the money is hidden, but Manfred has developed a dissociative identity disorder and tends towards auto-aggressive behaviour like hitting his head or jumping out of the window. He remembers nothing about the crime, or where the loot is. In search of the money, Anker and Manfred return to their former family home, a house located in the middle of the forest now run as an AirBnB by a strange couple. Instead of the money, the two dissimilar brothers dig up deeply buried childhood memories. And they make friends with kindred spirits. The pitch-black comedy by Anders Thomas Jensen (“Adam's Apples”, “Men & Chicken”) is about trauma and loss, and the director demands a lot from an enthusiastic cast led by Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Mads Mikkelsen. Jensen sends them through hazardous slapstick and action scenes, and uses music to give the characters footing when everything begins to go off the rails.
