The toy salesman and romantic Jakob is still hung up on his childhood sweetheart, Marie. When he runs into her again for the first time in years, there is a misunderstanding and Marie thinks that Jakob is now a successful photographer. Jakob, who is far from professionally successful, notices that Marie now looks at him with different eyes. Hoping to rekindle their relationship, he lets the misconception stand – and thus quickly becomes entangled in a web of half-truths and untruths. With the help of his best friend Torsten and his self-confident colleague Lotte and her son, Jakob creates a past that presents him as more successful and grown-up than he actually is. But the closer Jakob gets to his goal of winning Marie back, the further he moves away from everything that makes him who he is.
