Apple Workshops

On November 4, 5 and 6, 2004, the Apple Computer company is offering workshops on video editing, visual effects, DVD production and animation programs within the framework of the Nordic Film Days Lübeck.

The 3-hour, English-language workshops comprise training in the programs Shake 3.5, Motion, Final Cut Pro HD und DVD Studio Pro 3.0. The workshops will take place in the building complex of the Media Docks Lübeck (Willy-Brandt-Allee 31a, 23554 Lübeck).

Jean-Luc Bouchard and Dirk Ellis (Pro Applications Europe, Apple Computer) will be conducting the courses. Jean-Luc Bouchard was the contact person from Apple Computer for the Weta Digital team, Wellington, New Zealand, during the production of the Oscar-winning "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Dirk Ellis is looking after the Apple PRO Training Series in Europe.

Initiated by Mindnet OHG (, the workshops are being supported by Apple Center M&M:Trading! (, Media Docks Lübeck ( and the International School of New Media (

Filmmakers from Germany and the Nordic countries can apply for the courses as of now. The workshops are free of charge.

Digital Videoproduction Workflow with Apple Final Cut Pro

Description:Final Cut Pro HD offers industry-leading scalability and performance for the independent hobbiest/videographer to the most sophisticated films being made in Hollywood. After getting acquainted with the software's interface, You'll dive into chapters on marking and editing, inserting and adjusting edits, working with clips on the timeline, and more before moving on to advanced topics like creating transitions and motion effects, and filter and rendering options. All of Final Cut Pro HD's powerful new features are covered, including real-time color correction and effects and integration with Motion and DVD Studio Pro

This course is designed for those with experience in basic video editing.

Motion - Apple's revolutionary software for motion graphics design.

Description:Have a hand on Motion! Apple's exciting software for motion graphics design! This workshop will start with motion graphics fundamentals and take you through Motion's unique interface. You'll learn Motion's Real-Time Design engine and it's most advanced features behavior-based animation, particle dynamics and simulation design, stylized title animation, bluescreen keying techniques, DVD motion menu design, keyframing and integration with Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro.

This course is designed for attendees with experience in video/film effects compositing

Friday, November 5th, 14.00 - 17.30

Shake 3.5

This workshop is an introduction to the primary feature set and basic interface of Shake 3.5. Using visual effects shots from motion pictures, you will learn the process of integrating computer-generated elements with live action photography using motion tracking and color matching tools, as well as utilizing keying techniques to place blue and green screen shots against background plates. Most importantly, learn to create multi-layer composites using Shake's Node tree organizational structure.

This course is designed for attendees with experience in video/film effects compositing.

DVD Studio Pro 3

DVD Authoring with Apple DVD Studio Pro 3.0

Description:Technical depth and ease of use make DVD Studio Pro the most complete, flexible and creative tool for DVD authoring professionals. Topics covered include storyboarding, bit-budgeting, encoding audio and video, creating still and motion menus, interactivity and navigation, chapter markers, stories, Web links, slideshows, scripts, juggling multiple audio tracks and camera angles, and building, formatting, and burning the DVD. Plus Workflow integration with Final Cut Pro and Motion.

This course is designed for both those with experience in video editing and entering the DVD Authoring field and those already designing in other DVD Authoring applications.
